A New Chapter for Wisconsin-Stevens Point Basketball
Kent Dernbach, the head coach of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point men’s basketball program, has been named to the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Committee, a nine-member panel that helps shape national championship policies.
The committee’s mandate includes refining tournament selection criteria, scheduling models and rule considerations, giving Dernbach a direct voice in the future of Division III basketball.
Dernbach’s appointment comes as the Pointers prepare for the 2026-27 campaign, a season that will open at home against St. Olaf College on November 11.
The team returns all five starters from a year ago, including standout forward Josiah Butler, who earned all-region honors, and rookie Max Raimer, last season’s WIAC Co-Newcomer of the Year.
Coach Dernbach highlighted the value of continuity, noting that the familiar core gives the squad a solid foundation as they aim to extend their recent return to the NCAA Tournament, a feat not achieved since the 2018 edition.
With the new committee responsibilities and a promising roster, the Pointers are positioned to make a strong impact both on the court and in the broader collegiate basketball landscape.
