Kent State University has named Jeff Duncan as the head coach of its baseball program, and he recently unveiled a trio of additions to the coaching staff that promise to reshape the program’s direction.
Justin Miknis, a former Kent State catcher who earned All‑MAC honors in 2022 and 2023, returns to the university after a professional stint within the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, where he was recognized with the 2024 Roberto Clemente Award for his leadership and community work.
Joining Miknis is Michael McNamara, a Kent State alumnus who was listed among D1 Baseball’s Top 50 Shortstops nationally during his collegiate career and holds a Bachelor of Science in Sports Administration; he will serve as director of player development, bringing a data‑driven approach to the team’s growth.
Bobby Del Torto, whose career includes stints at Strike Force Baseball Academy, Premier Ohio, and a graduate assistantship in the Kent State Ticket Office, now takes on the role of director of baseball operations, leveraging his experience in player development, facility management and event coordination.
A Fresh Coaching Landscape
The appointments reflect a deliberate effort by Duncan to blend proven playing experience with analytical expertise, a combination he believes will translate into stronger on‑field performance and enhanced recruiting pipelines.
Fans and alumni alike have responded positively, citing the program’s recent upward trajectory and the promise of continuity with familiar faces who understand the culture of Kent State baseball.
As the team prepares for the upcoming season, the coordinated leadership of Duncan, Miknis, McNamara and Del Torto will be closely watched by both the university community and opponents.
