A Strategic Boost for the Program
Kent State University announced the addition of three student‑athletes who will join the women's basketball squad for the 2026‑27 season. The signings are part of a broader effort to deepen the roster, improve competitiveness in the Mid‑American Conference, and reinforce the program's developmental pipeline.
Talia Harris, a point guard who previously starred at Mercer University, brings Division I experience and a proven scoring touch. During her freshman year she averaged 7.8 points and 1.7 assists per game, showcasing poise under pressure and a knack for orchestrating the offense.
Sini Luukkonen, the program's first European signee since 2011, arrives from Torpan Pojat in Finland's top Korisliiga league. The 2025 Under‑19 Championship's top player, Luukkonen combines elite shooting range with defensive intensity, offering a fresh tactical dimension for the team.
Da'Nia McClain, a versatile wing/forward from Robert Morris University, adds a blend of size, athleticism, and all‑court skill. Over 18 games in her freshman campaign she recorded 39 points, 25 rebounds, four blocks, three assists and three steals, underscoring her ability to influence the game in multiple ways.
Coach's Vision
Coach Fran Recchia lauded the newcomers for their talent, work ethic and personalities, noting that each player aligns with the program's culture of growth and accountability. "These young women bring a mix of skill sets that complement our existing core and give us depth heading into a critical season," Recchia said.
The coaching staff believes the fresh talent will not only elevate on‑court performance but also foster a competitive environment that benefits the entire squad. With a blend of experience and youthful energy, Kent State aims to contend more fiercely in its conference and pursue deeper runs in postseason play.
