Kentucky’s men’s basketball program has released its non‑conference schedule for the 2026‑27 season, confirming two new opponents: Appalachian State and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
The Mountaineers will travel to Lexington and make their first appearance at Rupp Arena on December 5, 2026, while the Trojans will meet the Wildcats in an exhibition game on October 16, 2026, also inside the iconic venue.
Both schools share a brief history with Kentucky, having faced the Wildcats only once before, which makes each upcoming meeting a novel chapter for the program.
A reunion with a former Wildcat
Little Rock’s head coach Travis Ford returns to the state where he once wore the blue and white from 1991 to 1994. During his collegiate career he scored 951 points, dished out 428 assists and grabbed 201 rebounds.
Appalachian State, under head coach Dustin Kerns since 2019, has built a reputation for a stingy defense, ranking among the nation’s top 50 teams in points allowed per game for six straight seasons.
Strategic scheduling in a competitive landscape
The schedule reflects a calculated approach, pairing traditional power‑house opponents with carefully chosen matchups designed to boost Kentucky’s NET rating and improve its postseason positioning.
