A Rapid Transition in the Front Office
Pat Biondo resigned from his role as general manager of the University of Kentucky football program on July 28, 2025, and the next day the school announced that assistant general manager Pete Nochta would assume the position. The swift succession underscored the administration’s confidence in an internal candidate.
Head coach Will Stein praised the move, stating that Nochta’s long‑standing relationship with the Wildcats and his proven track record made him the ideal person to lead the personnel department. Stein highlighted the candidate’s deep football knowledge and organizational acumen.
A Familiar Face Returns
Nochta’s career includes a decade at the University of Louisville, where he most recently served as director of recruiting for four years. He graduated from Tates Creek High School in Lexington before embarking on his collegiate administrative path.
Stein noted that he first met Nochta when both were students at the University of Louisville — Stein as a quarterback and Nochta as a tight end — and that the two have been friends ever since. He recalled that Nochta was one of his earliest contacts when Stein arrived in Kentucky.
The promotion was executed quickly because Stein trusted Nochta’s blend of on‑field experience and back‑office expertise. The coach expressed optimism that the new general manager would strengthen the roster‑building efforts as the program moves forward.
