Kentucky Moves Big Blue Madness to October 2 Ahead of NCAA Rule Change

The annual preseason event will feature new contests and a revised schedule as the Wildcats gear up for the upcoming season

Big Blue Madness Gets an Early Boost

Kentucky’s signature preseason showcase, known as Big Blue Madness, will take place on October 2 at Rupp Arena, marking a week‑early start compared with recent years.

The evening will blend basketball with fan‑focused contests, including a 3‑point shootout, a dunk competition, skill drills and a scrimmage, all designed to stir excitement before the regular season begins.

The shift in timing reflects a broader NCAA adjustment that expands preseason exhibition opportunities from two to three games, prompting the university to align its traditional event with the new calendar.

Mark Pope, who took over the men’s program last spring, has scheduled an exhibition matchup against Little Rock for October 16, while Coach Kenny Brooks has yet to reveal any upcoming games for the women’s side.

Longtime fans recall that the event was first conceived by former coach Joe B. Hall in 1982, a tradition that has since become a staple of Kentucky basketball culture.
