Recruiting Across Borders
The Kentucky Wildcats basketball program currently carries twelve scholarship players and has three openings to fill as the roster prepares for the next season.
Head coach Mark Pope, who took over the program last year, has indicated a willingness to look beyond domestic pipelines, emphasizing the value of international experience in today’s game.
One name that has surfaced is Savo Drezgic, a 6‑foot‑4 guard who spent the most recent season with Mega Superbet in Europe after a brief stint with the Georgia Bulldogs. In his European campaign he posted 15 points and four assists per game while shooting 36 percent from three‑point range.
Drezgic’s collegiate résumé includes a three‑star rating in the 2024 recruiting class and a short tenure at Georgia, where he averaged just three points in limited minutes. Prior to that, he was a standout at the high‑school level, drawing interest from several programs.
Coach Pope has a track record of securing overseas talent, having previously landed forward Andrija Jelavic from the same Mega Superbet roster. The Wildcats hope to replicate that success as they seek to bolster depth and competitiveness.
The pursuit of Drezgic reflects a broader trend among Power Five programs to tap European markets, where talent can be developed at a high level and often brings a different style of play that complements domestic recruits.
