How the Major Services Rank the Prospects
Kentucky’s 2027 basketball recruiting class is already making headlines, even though the roster is still taking shape. The Wildcats have secured a verbal commitment from Ryan Hampton, the only player who has publicly pledged to the program so far, and the coaching staff is actively pursuing several other elite prospects.
Hampton’s current composite rankings sit at No. 20 on ESPN, No. 19 on Rivals and No. 12 on 247 Sports, but he was recently demoted to four‑star status on the first two platforms. To climb back into five‑star territory, he will need a breakout AAU season that showcases his full skill set.
Marcus Spears Jr., a 6‑foot‑9 forward and Hampton’s cousin, is generating considerable buzz. He is listed No. 1 on ESPN and No. 3 on 247 Sports, though he slipped to No. 7 on Rivals. His combination of size, shooting range and playmaking ability makes him a coveted target for Kentucky’s front office.
Another 6‑foot‑9 prospect, C.J. Rosser, occupies the top spot on Rivals and sits at No. 4 on ESPN while holding the No. 3 position on 247 Sports. His versatility on both ends of the floor has placed him high on Kentucky’s wish list.
The Wildcats are also tracking Beckham Black, Demarcus Henry and Adan Diggs, all of whom are expected to announce their decisions later this year. Each brings a distinct skill set that could address different needs in Kentucky’s lineup.
With the rankings in flux and the AAU circuit looming, the coming months will likely reshape the board. For Kentucky, the priority is to convert interest into signed letters of intent before the next recruiting cycle begins.
