Detroit Tigers right fielder Kerry Carpenter, who was placed on the injured list in July 2024 after a field injury, has turned his rehabilitation into a chance to give back to the community.
He recently joined a youth baseball and softball camp at Saginaw Valley State University, where he worked side‑by‑side with young athletes, sharing drills and stories from his own childhood on the diamond.
A Camp Close to Home
The event, organized by FlexWork Sports as part of its community‑outreach initiatives, aimed to teach fundamental skills while fostering a love for the game.
Carpenter’s wife, Lauren, a former college softball standout, helped run the camp, bringing her own experience to the field and encouraging the participants to pursue their athletic passions.
Reflecting on his own youth, Carpenter said he felt a deep connection to the campers, recalling how similar programs had shaped his own development and now inspiring the next generation.
The camp not only focused on technical fundamentals but also emphasized teamwork, sportsmanship, and the joy of playing, values that both Carpenter and his wife hope to instill in the participants.
