The University of Alabama in Huntsville announced this week that Kevin Mitchell has been appointed to the role of assistant baseball coach, a move that underscores the program’s intent to bolster its pitching development.
A Proven Track Record
Mitchell arrives after a two‑year stint at Utah Valley University, where he served as director of pitching development and helped the Wolverines capture their second Western Athletic Conference tournament championship while guiding the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances.
During his tenure at Utah Valley, Mitchell’s analytical approach and emphasis on mechanics contributed to a measurable rise in pitcher performance, a factor that did not go unnoticed by UAH athletic director.
Prior to his collegiate responsibilities, Mitchell honed his craft at Summit High School in Breckenridge, Colorado, where he worked as an assistant coach from 2017 through 2024, and spent summers mentoring talent with the Medicine Hat Mavericks of the Western Canadian Baseball League.
His summer work included a standout 2024 season in which he was selected to lead the North Division in the WCBL All‑Star Game, and he earned the league’s Coach of the Year honor in 2023 after guiding the Mavericks to a championship.
Mitchell’s playing background adds another layer of credibility; he was a key member of the 2013 NJCAA national championship team at Rowan College of South Jersey and later completed a bachelor’s degree in sports and recreation management from Eastern New Mexico University in 2023.
Looking Ahead
The addition of Mitchell is expected to deepen the Chargers’ recruiting pipeline and enhance player development, a strategic priority as the program seeks to climb the conference rankings.
