A standout recruit's decision
Ke'Vontae Pitts, a junior defensive back from East Nashville, revealed his commitment to Mississippi State during a June 14 official visit, opting for the Bulldogs over a list of other programs that had courted him.
The decision came after a recruiting process that included offers from Memphis, Arkansas State, East Carolina, Charlotte and Austin Peay, each of which had pursued the talented defensive back.
A breakout season
Pitts helped East Nashville reach the TSSAA football Class 2A state quarterfinals, finishing the 2025 campaign with four interceptions, 60 tackles and three punt returns that resulted in touchdowns. His playmaking ability added a dynamic edge to the Eagles' defense.
Beyond the numbers, his presence was felt in the locker room, where coaches praised his leadership and work ethic as the team pushed toward a deep playoff run.
What this means for the Bulldogs
Adding a player of Pitts's caliber strengthens a secondary that has been seeking playmakers, and his special‑teams contributions could provide an immediate boost to field position battles. The coaching staff views the commitment as a cornerstone for building a defense that can compete in the SEC.
The pledge also signals to other recruits that Mississippi State remains an attractive destination, especially for those who want to develop under a program that emphasizes both athletic growth and academic opportunity.
