Keyon Thomas Commits to Iowa
Keyon Thomas, a 3‑star running back from Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, has officially pledged to the Iowa Hawkeyes, becoming the sole running back commitment in the 2027 class.
The commitment follows a recent visit to Iowa and a series of offers from programs including Illinois, Michigan State, Cincinnati, UConn and others. Thomas concluded his recruitment by choosing the Big Ten school over the competition.
A Boost from Indiana
Iowa has a longstanding reputation for successfully recruiting talent from Indiana, a trend that extends beyond Thomas. Current roster members such as Trevor Lauck, Leighton Jones, Xavier Williams and Jimmy Sullivan hail from the state, joining a lineage that includes former Hawkeyes Jay Higgins and Deontae Craig.
The influx of Indiana players is not limited to the 2027 class; every running back on Iowa's 2026 roster retains multiple seasons of eligibility, suggesting a sustained pipeline of talent from the Hoosier state.
Adding Thomas to the backfield also brings a physical presence, as he stands around 6 feet tall and weighs more than 200 pounds. Last season he amassed 1,337 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns, complemented by 18 receptions for 184 yards and a score.
Coaching Impact
Jay Norvell, who is entering his first season as Iowa's running backs coach, will now work directly with Thomas. His arrival adds a new dimension to the position group, potentially accelerating the freshman's development.
The commitment underscores Iowa's continued focus on bolstering its offense with versatile, high‑character athletes, a strategy that has helped the Hawkeyes remain competitive in the Big Ten.
