Khoi Thurmon Joins Old Dominion Men’s Basketball as Transfer

The Chicago guard brings JUCO All‑American pedigree and scoring prowess to the Monarchs

A New Chapter for the Monarchs

Khoi Thurmon, a 6‑foot‑1 guard from Chicago, Illinois, has officially joined the Old Dominion University men’s basketball program as a transfer student. The move comes after a two‑year journey that saw him compete at Oakland before spending a season at Panola College and another at Purdue Fort Wayne.

During his sophomore year at Panola College, Thurmon earned JUCO All‑American honors and led his team in scoring, averaging 14.8 points per game. His performance on the court was highlighted by a career‑high 26‑point outing against Dallas College Eastfield, underscoring his ability to dominate games when needed.

At Purdue Fort Wayne, Thurmon’s freshman season was marked by limited minutes but valuable experience, as he appeared in 32 games and contributed 2.5 points per contest. The exposure to a higher level of competition helped refine his skills and prepared him for a larger role at Old Dominion.

Before college, Thurmon excelled at Buchtel High School in Akron, Ohio, where he was named All‑State Second Team and earned a spot on the Beach Ball Classic All‑Tournament Team. He also captured the Suburban League American Conference Player of the Year award as a sophomore at Copley High School, a testament to his consistent offensive production.

Beyond raw scoring numbers, Thurmon is recognized for his versatility as both a playmaker and a defender. His 4.5 assists per game at Buchtel reflect a basketball IQ that complements his scoring, while his defensive contributions add depth to the Monarchs’ backcourt.

Coach Mike Jones, who has been instrumental in recruiting Thurmon, expressed confidence that the guard’s leadership and work ethic will elevate the team’s competitiveness. “Khoi brings a winning mentality and the ability to score at will,” Jones said. “We’re excited to see how his experience can translate into immediate impact for Old Dominion.”
