A Revamped Corps of Wideouts
When Brian Kelly left the program in 2025, the Tigers faced a significant void at the wide receiver position. Coach Lane Kiffin responded by tapping the transfer portal, securing nine experienced pass‑catchers to refill the room.
The newcomers include Jayce Brown, Eugene Wilson III, Winston Watkins Jr., Jackson Harris, Malik Elzy and several others who previously served as primary or secondary options at their former schools. Their varied backgrounds bring a mix of size, speed and route‑running savvy.
During the first five practices of fall camp, Brown, Watkins and Elzy have drawn particular attention. Limited media viewings have shown them executing precise routes and making contested catches, signaling that they are already clicking with the offense.
Kiffin has described the group as one of the better receiver rooms in the league, emphasizing its competitive edge and the way it has elevated daily practice intensity.
The coaching staff views the additions as a catalyst for improving every slot on the roster, aiming to raise the overall offensive output and make the Tigers more dynamic heading into the season. The transition has been described as smooth, marking the first year of Kiffin’s staff in Baton Rouge.
