Kingsford’s Girls Soccer Team Advances to District Championship

The Kingsford High School girls soccer squad delivered a commanding 5‑0 victory over Cheboygan in the MHSAA District 33 semifinal, a performance that has propelled them into the championship match against Traverse City St. Francis.

Senior forward Ingrid Holt opened the scoring with a crisp outside‑shot that caught the Cheboygan keeper off guard, while Clara Grymes linked up with Aubrie Moore for the second goal, showcasing quick chemistry on the left flank.

A corner kick from Avery Edwards found Kelsie Haelterman, whose header set up Sophia Touchett for a third‑minute strike, and later Moore’s precise distribution allowed Sofia Tappy to unleash a 40‑yard effort that stretched the lead further.

The midfield and defensive units also shone, with coach Jenette Gunville highlighting the work of Avery Edwards, Jordan Maenpa, Abby Hoy, Lexi Gunville and goalkeeper Kylie Woodward in preserving the clean sheet.

Traverse City St. Francis, meanwhile, secured their place in the final with a 6‑1 triumph over Boyne City, setting up a showdown that promises a clash of the region’s top offensive threats.

With the championship game looming, Gunville emphasized that the team’s defensive discipline will be as crucial as their attacking flair, noting that the upcoming match will test their depth and resilience.
