KJ Scobey, a former standout at McKeel High School, has carved out a promising path in college baseball, blending raw talent with a disciplined approach at the plate.
After two seasons with the University of South Carolina and a summer stint in the Cape Cod League with the Yarmouth Dennis Red Sox, Scobey has begun to experiment with premium wood bats supplied by Chandler Bats and Headbanger Sports, models favored by Major League players.
The Wooden Bat Edge
The bats, customized to a 33.5‑inch length and 30‑ounce weight, reflect a deliberate effort to match the swing dynamics of elite professionals, a move that has already paid dividends in his recent statistical surge.
In the 2025 season he posted 49 hits, 27 RBIs and eight home runs, posting a .419 slugging percentage, and a year later his numbers climbed to 56 hits, 36 RBIs and nine homers with a .456 slugging mark.
Coached by Ron Nipper at McKeel and refined under the guidance of Mark Percails at Florida Baseball Heaven, Scobey emphasizes patience at the plate, waiting for the right pitch before unleashing his swing.
Looking ahead, the athlete plans to transfer to Texas Tech University for his junior year, where he hopes to continue his development while still finding time for the occasional round of golf, a hobby he enjoys despite focusing on baseball.
