KJ Thomas Commits to West Texas A&M for 2026‑27 Season

Former Randall High standout brings Texas‑ranked talent to the Buffaloes

West Texas A&M announced the addition of KJ Thomas, a 6‑foot‑1 guard, to its roster for the upcoming 2026‑27 season, marking a strategic move to bolster the team’s backcourt.

A New Chapter for the Buffaloes

Thomas arrives after a two‑year stint at UTEP, where he shot 40.8 percent from the field and 26.5 percent from beyond the arc, while also converting 74 of 102 free‑throw attempts.

His collegiate career at the Miners included 89 rebounds, 106 assists and 43 steals, numbers that reflect a well‑rounded skill set.

Before college, Thomas dominated at Randall High School in Canyon, Texas, guiding the Raiders to consecutive appearances at the State Tournament in 2023 and 2024.

During those seasons he was recognized as the fourth‑best point guard in the state and finished as the school’s all‑time leader in points, assists and three‑pointers made in a single season.

Coach Tom Brown praised the newcomer, highlighting his competitive experience and the spark he is expected to bring to the program.

Former high school coach Trevor Johnson went a step further, describing Thomas as arguably the most decorated player to emerge from Randall.

The Buffaloes hope that Thomas’s blend of shooting accuracy, playmaking and defensive grit will translate into more wins on the hardwood.
