A Texas Star Chooses Fort Worth
Kobe Haynes, a three‑star wide receiver from Whitney High School in Texas, announced his commitment to TCU on Monday, elevating the Horned Frogs to the top of the 2027 recruiting class. The decision marks a significant milestone for the program, which has been aggressively pursuing top talent across the nation.
Haynes capped his junior season with 3,552 all‑purpose yards, including 1,474 passing yards, 1,438 rushing yards and 680 receiving yards. His versatility earned him District 5‑3A MVP honors and helped lead Whitney to a 10‑3 record, highlighted by a perfect 5‑0 district slate.
The recruit weighed offers from Stanford and Baylor before narrowing his choices and ultimately selecting TCU. An official visit to Fort Worth in late May gave Haynes a firsthand look at the campus, the coaching staff and the program’s vision for his development.
Coach Sonny Dykes praised Haynes’s athleticism and football IQ, noting that the player can line up at multiple positions and bring a dynamic edge to both the offense and special teams. Dykes emphasized that Haynes’s work ethic aligns perfectly with the Horned Frogs’ culture.
Haynes becomes the first wide receiver of the class and the highest‑rated recruit in TCU’s 2027 cohort, a clear signal of the program’s growing appeal on the national stage. His addition is expected to bolster the receiving corps and add depth at defensive back, providing the team with increased flexibility in scheming.
The commitment underscores the impact of TCU’s recruiting strategy, which has focused on building relationships with high‑school coaches and players, offering personalized development plans, and showcasing the university’s academic strengths alongside its football tradition.
