Defensive Excellence Recognized
Kolby Branch, a senior shortstop for the University of Georgia, has been selected to the NCAA Division I Gold Glove team, marking the fourth time a Bulldog has earned the prestigious defensive honor.
Branch’s fielding percentage of .975 across 275 chances tops the Bulldogs’ chart, underpinning Georgia’s run to both the SEC regular‑season and tournament championships and a berth in the College World Series.
At the plate he is batting .286 with 18 doubles, 19 home runs and 58 RBI, showing that his impact extends beyond defense.
A Brotherly Battle in Omaha
His younger brother Kyle, a second baseman for Oklahoma, will meet Kolby on the field in Omaha, making them the first siblings to oppose each other in a CWS game.
The showdown is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN, with a simulcast on the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network, adding extra intrigue to the third‑seeded Bulldogs’ matchup against the Sooners.
The Award’s Legacy
The Gold Glove team is voted on by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All‑America & Coach of the Year Committee, continuing a tradition that began in 2007 to recognize the nation’s top defensive players.
Branch also remains a strong candidate for Academic All‑America, with the honorees set to be announced on June 23, underscoring his commitment on and off the field.
