The Fort Wayne Komets have announced a trio of additions that could reshape their lineup for the 2026‑27 campaign.
A blend of veteran savvy and youthful promise
Veteran center Mitch Hults, 31, brings five years of experience in European leagues and a solid AHL pedigree, having logged 82 games with San Diego and Syracuse while contributing 35 points.
Joining him is 24‑year‑old center Patrick Guzzo, who capped his rookie season with South Carolina at 27 points and earned the Big Ten sportsmanship award in 2025 after a collegiate career at Ohio State University where he won 1,266 faceoffs and served as team captain.
The third piece, defenseman Jack Matier, 23, was drafted fourth overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by Nashville and has spent recent seasons in the AHL with Milwaukee and the Atlanta Gladiators, while also representing Team Canada at the 2023 World Juniors Tournament.
Coach and management see the signings as a strategic move to add depth, stability and a competitive edge, mixing European‑trained talent with home‑grown prospects.
The Komets hope the new roster will translate into a stronger performance on the ice and a deeper run in the playoffs as they prepare for the upcoming season.
