Kristy Curry Takes the Helm of USF Women’s Basketball

A seasoned coach brings a winning pedigree and a fresh roster to the Bulls

Kristy Curry has stepped into the role of head coach for the University of South Florida women’s basketball program, bringing with her a proven track record of winning and a vision for sustained excellence.

Curry arrives after a coaching career that boasts a .632 winning percentage and 14 NCAA Tournament appearances, underscoring the high expectations that accompany her appointment.

The Bulls have enjoyed a remarkable stretch of late, posting 15 consecutive winning seasons and capturing 20‑win campaigns in four of the past five years, a testament to the program’s resilience.

Building on that foundation, Curry has assembled a recruiting class that blends experienced transfers with promising freshmen, aiming to keep the momentum alive.

Among the newcomers is Katie Davidson, who contributed 7.4 points per game last season for the Owls, and Janette Aarnio, whose background includes a standout high school career at The Westtown School where she averaged 16.4 points and 5.4 rebounds.

The roster also welcomes Edyn Battle, Jelena Bulajic, Brooklyn Hall, Kierston Lewis‑Williams and Raina Tomasicka, each bringing distinct skills that could shape the team’s dynamics.

The coaching staff’s recruitment extends beyond the current year, with transfers such as Kennerly, who averaged 15.1 points per game at Howard High School in Maryland and earned county player of the year honors in 2022 and 2023.

Other additions include Kohn, a sharpshooter from Oviedo who shot 37% from three‑point range during her collegiate career, and Novik, a Belarusian forward who earned All‑Big East Second Team honors at DePaul after averaging 12.2 points and 6.4 rebounds.

The class also features Porter, a Maryland native who posted 16.3 points and 7.3 rebounds last season, and Hardy, the 2026 Florida Miss Basketball who averaged 23.9 points per game in high school.

Veteran players like Collier, who appeared in 16 games off the bench, and Puryear, a freshman who started 14 games and contributed 6.6 points per game for the Boilermakers, add depth to the squad.

Even international talent is present, with Vetesina, who represented the Estonia U18 national team and averaged 7.3 points and 7.1 rebounds at the U18 EuroBasket tournament.

A Promising Roster Takes Shape

The upcoming season offers a unique opportunity for the program to cement its rise, as chemistry develops and the new coaching philosophy takes hold.
