Lauren Moll, Robin Schilling, Linda Reid and Jeff Hollenbach joined borough officials for a ribbon‑cutting ceremony last week to mark the completion of a multimillion‑dollar renovation of the baseball field at Kulp Park, a venue that has served the community for more than a century.
A Historic Site Gets a Modern Makeover
The project, which cost roughly $1 million, introduced a suite of upgrades including energy‑efficient LED lighting, reinforced safety fencing, a relocated backstop, new ADA‑accessible walkways and improved drainage to protect the playing surface.
Kulp Park itself dates back to 1898, when the land began its life as a duck farm before the borough acquired it in 1924; the baseball diamond and grandstand were erected during the Great Depression by the Works Progress Administration, a testament to the era’s public‑works spirit.
Renamed in 1978 to honor longtime borough manager Frank Gulp, the park has long been a hub for youth games, local leagues and community events, and its baseball heritage is intertwined with Perkasie’s historic role as a manufacturing center for MLB‑grade bats and equipment.
The renovation was fully financed through state grants, underscoring a collaborative investment in the borough’s future and in the next generation of athletes.
Looking ahead, borough planners are already drafting a third phase that could bring further enhancements to the park’s basketball courts and additional accessibility features, promising an even broader community impact.
