Kutztown Golden Bears Preseason Poll Champions for Third Consecutive Year

Historic 2020‑21 campaign fuels expectations as the Bears eye another PSAC title and NCAA success

A Historic Build‑Up

Kutztown University’s field hockey program has once again been voted the preseason favorite in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, securing the top spot for the third straight year. The poll, released ahead of the 2026 season, reflects the team’s sustained dominance in the league.

The Golden Bears’ 2020‑21 campaign was nothing short of historic. They finished 20‑2 with a 19‑game winning streak that propelled them into the national conversation. During that stretch they set new single‑season records for goals (101) and assists (67), while also leading the nation in penalty corners with 304.

Defensively, Kutztown allowed just 15 goals all season, the lowest total in Division II. Their impressive run culminated with a runner‑up finish in the PSAC tournament and a berth in the NCAA Final Four, earning seven of the ten first‑place votes in the latest poll. Shippensburg and West Chester followed in second and third.

Returning Talent

Three All‑Americans from that breakout season return for Kutztown — Jessica Traynor, Olivia Kirkpatrick and Marissa Rice — giving the squad a strong core as it prepares for the upcoming schedule. Their experience and proven performance are expected to be key factors in the team’s pursuit of another conference title.

The 2026 regular season opens on September 3 at Adelphi University, after which the Bears will host a weekend tournament at Andre Reed Stadium on September 5 and 6. The event will showcase the team’s depth and set the tone for what many anticipate will be another championship‑contending campaign.
