A fresh start for L.J. Cason
L.J. Cason’s name has resurfaced in college basketball circles after he announced his transfer to the Miami Hurricanes, ending a brief but eventful stint at the University of Michigan.
The 6‑foot‑3 guard arrived in Ann Arbor as a highly touted recruit, only to see his sophomore campaign cut short by a torn ACL sustained in February. In the five games he did play, he posted double‑figure scoring in four of them and averaged 8.4 points and 2.4 assists per game, showing flashes of the playmaking ability that made him a top prospect out of Lakeland, Florida.
Recovery and outlook
Now focusing on recovery, Cason is slated to rejoin the court for the latter half of the 2026‑27 season. Michigan, which currently fields 13 scholarship players, is actively seeking an additional backcourt piece to complement its rebuilding roster.
The move also brings Cason back into the orbit of several familiar faces, including former Michigan assistants Mike Boynton Jr. and Tony Garcia, as well as fellow guards Elliot Cadeau and Trey McKenney, who are all expected to shape the team’s dynamics next season.
