A Double Celebration for La Jolla Athletics
The baseball team secured a thrilling 7‑6 victory over Lincoln on May 15, clinching the City League championship and marking the second league title for the program in the past five years.
Just a week earlier, the softball squad completed an unbeaten run through the Central League, a feat that has kept the Vikings perched atop the standings and primed for a deep postseason.
At the heart of that softball success is senior first baseman Jacey Taylor, who smashed the school’s single‑season home run record with 13 homers and sits atop the career list with 27, a milestone previously held by Emmy Cardenas.
Taylor is batting .652 this season, driving in 66 runs while adding 15 doubles, and she shares the lineup with a host of standout performers including sophomore shortstop Ella Pearl (.521), third‑baseman Ellie Thomson (.493), junior catcher Aviv Laska (.365) and outfielder Savannah Putnam (.348).
The roster also features Joseph Crudo, Sebas Estrada, Johnny Agbulos, Dom Mendoza, Gary Frank, Charlie Smith, Andrew Cardenas, Carter Strauss, Harper Lane, Charlie Martin and Ryan Khourajian, each contributing depth and experience to the squad.
With the CIF Div. IV playoffs set to begin on May 20, the Vikings are eyeing a long run, hoping to translate their league dominance into a state‑level breakthrough.
