La Salle Women’s Field Hockey Falls in Shootout to Colgate

Early-season goal and strong defense not enough as Raiders lose 4-2 after overtime

The La Salle University women's field hockey team saw their season opener end in a 4-2 shootout defeat to Colgate University after a 2-2 deadlock in regulation and overtime, snapping a brief unbeaten start.

Match Highlights

The Raiders took an early lead when Tilly Diedrichsen found the net at 36:03, a goal set up by Natalie Ricci and Natalie Wilson, and extended it when Ricci added her first career tally at 38:01.

Colgate answered with two quick strikes in the third quarter, at 39:26 and 54:18, forcing the game into overtime where both defenses held firm and the score remained level.

La Salle goalkeeper Abby Boggs was instrumental, making 13 saves, including eight in the fourth quarter, and denying a late Colgate chance that would have broken the tie.

In the penalty shootout, La Salle converted only two of five attempts while Colgate scored four, sealing a 4-2 victory for the visitors.

Looking ahead, the Raiders travel to face Penn University next Friday before returning home to host Queens, VCU, and New Haven in their next three contests.
