La Vergne’s football team has endured a brutal stretch, dropping 22 consecutive games over the past two seasons and posting back‑to‑back 0‑10 records in 2024 and 2025. The Wolverines have been outscored by an average of 31 points per game, a margin that reflects both talent gaps and a lack of consistent execution on the field.
Second‑year head coach Christopher Johnson arrived in November 2024, succeeding Mike Woodward, who resigned after the previous season. Johnson has immediately instilled a new culture built around discipline, toughness and togetherness, outlining a set of team rules that he believes can change the program’s trajectory.
A New Emphasis on Discipline
The new rules are more than slogans; they are daily expectations that players must meet in practice and in the weight room. Johnson says the standards are non‑negotiable and that accountability will be enforced across the roster, from seniors to freshmen.
Nine of the team’s defensive starters are seniors, providing a rare blend of experience and leadership. Players such as cornerback DJ Banks have embraced the shift, noting that the senior class is eager to leave a legacy of improvement after years of frustration.
