A Legacy of Leadership
The Lackawanna Football Conference held its annual media day this week, but the spotlight was not just on the upcoming season — it was on a man who helped shape the tradition itself.
Stan Kucharski, who launched the media day in 2010, was celebrated for his decades of service as a coach and mentor. A standout athlete at Archbald High School and Bloomsburg University, he amassed 123 wins across stints at Scranton Prep, Mid Valley and Wallenpaupack, guiding the team to Suburban Conference titles in 1993, 1996 and 1997. He also served as president of the Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association in 2007 and 2016.
New Coaches Join the Ranks
The ceremony introduced four new head coaches who will lead the league’s programs this fall: Jack Miles at Scranton High School, Jimmy Tucker at Riverside, Dave Shimkosky at Western Wayne and Brett Stage at Montrose.
Riverside showcased a fresh helmet design that pays homage to its Viking roots — a red shell accented by a white Viking wing outlined in blue, symbolizing the school’s heritage.
Kucharski expressed pride in spotlighting the conference’s athletes before the season begins, underscoring the league’s dedication to promoting its teams and the community that supports them.
