The Lackawanna Trail Lions have become synonymous with championship pedigree, having secured four consecutive District 2 Class A crowns and a fifth overall title in 2025. The program’s tradition of excellence sets a high bar as the team looks ahead to the 2026 season.
A Legacy of Excellence
Coach Steve Jervis, who has guided the Lions for more than two decades, stresses that the program’s success is built on teamwork, relentless work ethic, and continuous development. ‘We focus on the process,’ he says, ‘and the results follow.’
The 2026 roster will look different after a wave of graduations that saw standout running back Isaac Ryon and three all‑star linemen depart. Nevertheless, the Lions retain a core of experienced talent, including All‑State offensive player Anthony Paolucci, who returns to anchor the attack.
Junior quarterback Lucas Filipek will take over as the starting signal‑caller, bringing a physical presence that should open lanes for the backfield. Speedster Tim Richmond is slated to be a primary weapon in the passing game, having posted 181 receiving yards and two touchdowns a year ago.
In the backfield, Hayden Reed, who rushed for 82 yards and a 26‑yard touchdown last season, will share carries with freshmen Ayden Fowler and senior Colby Stanton, adding depth to a versatile group. Defensively, Carter Edwards, a fullback who also logged 448 rushing yards and two touchdowns, anchors a unit that recorded over 40 tackles last year.
Freshmen Lucas Brunner and Adam Pettinato are already making impressions in camp, suggesting a promising infusion of youth. The defense also features experienced players like Reed, who amassed over 40 tackles, and Edwards, who contributed both as a blocker and a runner.
The Lions will continue to host their home games at Lions Pride Stadium, battling opponents across Pennsylvania including Western Wayne, Dunmore, Lakeland, Riverside, Mid Valley, Old Forge, Susquehanna, Holy Cross, Carbondale Area and Montrose. Each matchup promises a test of the team’s resilience as they aim to defend their Lackawanna League Division III and District 2 Class A titles.
With a schedule that blends familiar rivals and new challenges, the 2026 campaign will be a crucible for the team’s aspirations. Coach Jervis’s mantra of hard work and development serves as the compass guiding the Lions toward another season of excellence.
