A Dominant First Half Fuels Lady Flames Victory
On a crisp Sunday afternoon at Osborne Stadium, the Lady Flames delivered a masterclass in attacking football, turning a modest early lead into a comfortable 2-0 triumph over Charlotte.
Dani Gubbels opened the scoring in the 28th minute, striking from just outside the box after a well‑timed run along the boundary. It was her maiden career goal, arriving in her 19th appearance and on her fourth shot, a testament to her persistence and eye for opportunity.
The momentum continued to build, and just six minutes later Izzie Smulik doubled the lead. Smulik’s goal came after a sharp save by Bella Myrmel, with the forward finishing calmly to mark her first career strike on her very first shot of the season.
From that point onward the Flames maintained relentless pressure, finishing the match with a 12‑4 advantage in shots on goal. Goalkeeper play from both sides was tested, but the defensive unit held firm, allowing the attackers to dictate the tempo.
Full‑time minutes were logged by Ainsley Leja and Lauren Littleton, with Littleton continuing her ever‑present run in the 2026 campaign. Littleton has now featured in every minute of the season, underscoring her durability and importance to the squad.
The victory marks the third straight win for the Lady Flames and their second home triumph of the campaign. The team has now captured eight consecutive victories on their own turf, a streak that includes three titles in the 2025 CUSA Championship.
Looking ahead, Liberty will host William & Mary on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Albert‑Daly Field, a match that will be streamed live on Flo College, giving fans another chance to witness the squad’s rising momentum.
