LaFayette High School Basketball Camp Inspires Young Athletes

Former standout Trevond Barnes leads a free camp focused on skill development, sportsmanship, and personal growth.

A Community‑Driven Initiative

The free annual basketball camp at LaFayette High School gathered young athletes entering grades six through twelve on July 11 and 12, offering a blend of skill work, competition, and camaraderie.

Former LaFayette standout Trevond Barnes, who returned to lead the instruction, emphasized fundamentals while watching the campers' respect and work ethic shine.

Campers tackled drills, contests, and team‑building exercises built around the mantra “Develop. Compete. Elevate.”, a message that resonated throughout the two‑day session.

The event’s success was bolstered by donations from Anthony Kyles and Travis Smith, who supplied recovery supplies and nutrition packs for the participants.

Assisting Barnes were coaches Jamal Sims, Corey Boston, and Omar Boston, whose guidance helped translate the curriculum into hands‑on learning.

Beyond basketball, the camp aimed to instill life values such as hard work, respect, and perseverance, seeking to inspire the next generation of student‑athletes.
