A Tournament That Brought People Together
After five days of intense competition, the fifth annual USSSA National State Championship concluded in Lafayette, Louisiana, showcasing the talent of youth baseball teams from every corner of the United States.
National Program Director Frank Griffin took the opportunity to highlight the intricate collaboration that makes the event possible, from park facilities and coaches to umpires and support staff.
Griffin emphasized Lafayette’s unique community connection, noting that the city’s welcoming atmosphere allowed participants from across the country to feel at home while sharing the love of the game.
Damien "Papa Boom" Magalianis, a parent traveling with the Hawaii 12U squad, described the experience as both welcoming and fun, saying the trip offered a chance to immerse mainland participants in local culture.
The Louisiana Marlborough 13U team, playing on home soil, spoke about how the tournament strengthened their bond, having reached the championship stage in each of the past two years.
Jacob Ourso, a key player on that squad, reflected on the team’s consistent performance and outlined their focus for the final day, aiming to sharpen hitting, pitching and fielding.
