Lake Placid Soccer Centre Marks 50 Years with Week‑Long Celebration in New York

Youth camps, coach clinics, and World Cup watch parties highlight the Golden Anniversary schedule

The Lake Placid Soccer Centre is gearing up for its 50th anniversary, a milestone that will be marked with a series of events across Lake Placid and Canton, New York, from July 13 through July 17.

A Golden Milestone for Local Soccer

The week‑long program blends nostalgia with forward‑looking activities, offering youth camps, specialized coach clinics, competitive tournaments and World Cup‑themed gatherings that invite families and alumni to reconnect.

A centerpiece of the schedule is a free coaching clinic led by Alfred Galustian, co‑founder of the Coerver Coaching Method, whose expertise will be shared with aspiring youngsters across the region.

The celebration will also feature a 5‑on‑5 World Cup watch party tournament at the North Elba athletic fields, timed to coincide with the FIFA World Cup semifinal broadcasts on July 14 and 15.

Organizers have opened the invitation to former campers and their families from the past five decades, encouraging them to return for a reunion‑style gathering that honors the centre’s storied history.

Mike McGlynn, a longtime figure in the program, noted that more than 70,000 campers have passed through the centre’s youth programs, underscoring the deep community roots that the anniversary seeks to celebrate.

In addition to the events in Lake Placid and Canton, the anniversary calendar includes youth camps in Watertown and an overnight camp at St. Lawrence University running from July 19 to July 25, extending the festivities beyond the initial five‑day window.
