Lake Region State College’s women’s hockey program is entering a pivotal year, fielding its largest roster yet with 18 skaters prepared to battle in the 2026‑27 season.
A roster built for growth
First‑year head coach Cole Klubek, who previously helped guide the team through its fourth season under the ACHA umbrella, has assembled a diverse group that blends returning veterans with a wave of new talent.
Only two players from last season’s five‑player lineup return, but the new class brings fresh energy, highlighted by forwards Amelia Warren from Alaska and Thelma YellowFly of Alberta, as well as defender Charley Young, also from Canada.
The recruiting class spans the globe, featuring North Dakota natives Julia McIvor, Bitty Balek and Brenna Bauman, alongside freshmen goalies Kearis Renard, Avery Walker and Dakota Kottke, and sophomore standouts Jordyn Johnson, who re‑joined after a mid‑season transfer to Dakota College at Bottineau.
Additional newcomers include Lexi Anderson from Nebraska, Alexa Desrochers from Manitoba, and Maree West‑Linnett from Australia, who previously skated for Aquinas College in Michigan, adding depth and international flair to the squad.
The team’s schedule kicks off on October 9 against Dakota College at Bottineau, a date that also marks the debut of recent renovations to Burdick Arena’s locker room, a project completed over the summer by Coach Klubek and his wife, Brandi.
With a blend of home‑grown talent, cross‑border recruits, and a refreshed facilities backdrop, the Royals are poised to rewrite their recent 5‑8 record and aim for a competitive showing in the upcoming campaign.
