Dominant pitching and timely hitting see Austin-area teams take Game 1 victories while Dripping Springs and Wimberley fall

Semifinal Showdowns

The Texas high school baseball state semifinals kicked off with a pair of Austin‑area programs delivering commanding performances. Lake Travis, representing the 6A Division I bracket, opened the series with a 13‑0 victory over Humble Summer Creek, while Rouse, competing in the 5A Division I bracket, secured a 7‑3 win against Montgomery Lake Creek.

Lake Travis rode a one‑hit shutout from Cooper Webb, who recorded six strikeouts and kept the opposition scoreless. The offense exploded early, plating eight runs in the first inning. Ethan Schlotterback sparked the rally with an RBI triple, and run‑scoring singles from Nelson Molina and Elliott Proppe capped the opening frame.

Rouse’s offense was equally potent. Joe Bury went 2‑for‑3 with a walk, a triple and two RBIs, while Jacob Soliz and Liam Mongold launched back‑to‑back solo home runs to swing momentum in the team’s favor. The combined effort produced a comfortable margin over Montgomery Lake Creek.

Not all Austin‑area teams advanced. Dripping Springs fell 5‑10 to Houston Memorial in a 6A Division II matchup, and Wimberley lost 1‑5 to Robinson in a 4A Division II contest. Both defeats highlighted the competitive depth of the field.

With Game 2s scheduled for Friday, the remaining teams will look to build on their early successes. The University Interscholastic League continues to oversee the tournament, ensuring adherence to its rules and providing a platform for high‑school athletes to showcase their talent on a statewide stage.
