Lance Tolbert, a former Ole Miss baseball pitcher and longtime radio producer for SuperTalk Mississippi, died on July 27 at the age of 51. The network announced his passing, noting that funeral arrangements are currently being finalized.
A Voice That Resonated
Tolbert’s athletic journey began at Auburn, where he contributed to the 1994 College World Series team before moving to UAB and eventually to the University of Mississippi. At Ole Miss he became a standout pitcher, leading the squad in wins and posting a low earned run average in both 1997 and 1998, even earning the opening‑day starter role against Southeast Missouri State that year.
In 2010 he joined SuperTalk Mississippi, where he produced several popular shows, including Mornings with Richard Cross, The Garden Mama show, and The Handyman Show. He also hosted the Mississippi Farm Bureau High School Scoreboard Show, bringing weekly coverage of high school football to listeners across the state.
Colleagues and friends remember Tolbert for his creativity, dedication, and love of the medium. Kim Dillon, President and CEO of SuperTalk Mississippi, described him as a “dedicated, creative, and hardworking person who loved SuperTalk,” a sentiment echoed by many who worked alongside him.
Before his broadcasting career, Tolbert spent 14 years in the financial services industry and also worked as a fundraiser at Ole Miss. A native of Brandon, Mississippi, he graduated from Northwest Rankin High School and carried his small‑town roots into every role he undertook.
