Landen Williams-Callis, the nation’s top-ranked high school running back, announced his commitment to the University of Texas on Saturday, ending a whirlwind recruitment that had drawn more than 70 scholarship offers.
A Record-Breaking Commitment
Williams-Callis said the decision was driven by the sheer breadth of opportunity presented by the Longhorns program, which he described as an overwhelming package of academic resources, world-class facilities and elite coaching.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound senior will return to Randle High School in Richmond, Texas, where he already sits atop the school’s all-time rushing list with 7,554 career yards.
His 2025 season produced 3,502 rushing yards, leaving him 3,828 yards shy of the state record held by Keagan Ash, a milestone he hopes to reach before graduation.
Randle’s football team, the Lions, have posted a 42-3 record over the past two seasons and captured back-to-back state championships, giving Williams-Callis a proven winning environment.
In the 2024 championship game, he contributed 102 yards and a touchdown, earning MVP honors in a 38-35 victory over South Oak Cliff.
Coaches at the University of Texas expressed excitement about adding a player who not only brings elite talent but also a clear vision for breaking records and elevating the program.
The commitment underscores a growing trend of top Texas prospects choosing in-state powerhouses, a shift that could reshape recruiting dynamics across the Big 12.
