Landon DuPont Commits to Michigan Wolverines, Bringing Generational Talent to Ann Arbor

The 17‑year‑old defenseman's pledge bolsters Michigan's roster ahead of the 2026‑27 season

Landon DuPont, a 17‑year‑old defenseman, has pledged to join the University of Michigan for the 2026‑27 season, bringing a rare blend of size, skill and pedigree to the Wolverines' blue line.

A Generational Talent Arrives in Ann Arbor

DuPont arrives as one of the most highly touted prospects of his generation, having earned the CHL’s “exceptional status” designation and being the frontrunner for the top pick in next year’s NHL Draft.

Born in Calgary, Alberta, he spent his formative years playing overseas in Switzerland and Germany before starring at Edge School, where he tallied 62 points in 30 games as a 14‑year‑old and helped his club capture a CSSHL championship.

After being selected first overall by the Everett Silvertips, he burst onto the WHL scene, breaking the league’s U16 scoring record with 64 points in 60 games and earning Rookie of the Year honors in both the WHL and CHL.

Last season he led Everett to its first WHL championship and a Memorial Cup final appearance, skating on a sprained ankle while still contributing six points in four tournament games.

At Michigan, DuPont will pair with freshman defenseman Henry Mews and Nashville Predators prospect Cameron Reid, and is slated to quarterback the Wolverines’ first power‑play unit, with coaches expecting immediate offensive production.

Though Michigan State and Minnesota were also in the mix, DuPont’s decision underscores the Wolverines’ growing allure on the national stage and sets the stage for a potentially transformative season in Ann Arbor.
