A Fresh Arm for the Tigers
Landon Hood, a right‑handed pitcher from Gonzaga University, has officially joined the Louisiana State University baseball program after a standout freshman campaign. Hood's arrival comes as LSU prepares to replace several departing right‑handed arms, and his skill set is expected to bolster the rotation.
During his debut season with the Bulldogs, Hood posted a 2.48 earned run average over 541.2 innings, striking out batters at a rate of 12.9 per nine innings while walking just 9.3% of opponents. His performance earned him both the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year award and a second‑team All‑WCC selection.
Although primarily used in relief, Hood recorded five saves and appeared in 16 games, four of which were starts. His ability to close out games and generate strikeouts makes him a versatile option for Coach Jay Johnson, who recruited Hood from the Goodyear, Arizona, region that has long supplied talent to LSU.
Filling the Gap in the Rotation
LSU will lose at least seven right‑handed pitchers from the current roster, creating a significant void in the bullpen and starting staff. Hood's experience and statistical production position him as a key piece to plug that gap, offering both reliability and upside as the team looks ahead to the next season.
