Kiffin’s Optimism as Leavitt Returns to the Field
LSU’s head coach Lane Kiffin addressed the media on Tuesday, offering a much‑anticipated update on quarterback Sam Leavitt, who has been sidelined by a foot injury sustained during the 2025 season at Arizona State.
Leavitt, the highest‑rated transfer portal prospect in the nation, has been spotted back on the practice field, clocking a blistering 21 miles per hour on the GPS tracker — a clear indicator that his rehabilitation is progressing faster than many expected.
The former Michigan State recruit transferred to Arizona State, where in his debut season he guided the Sun Devils to the College Football Playoff, throwing for 2,885 yards and 24 touchdowns across 13 games.
After a season‑ending injury in 2025, Leavitt arrived in Baton Rouge to continue his rehab, and Kiffin says the senior quarterback should be “at full strength or close to it by summer,” positioning him to command a retooled Tigers offense in Kiffin’s first year.
The move marks a significant shift for LSU, which will lean on Leavitt’s experience and arm talent as the program looks to rebuild under its new coaching staff.
With the SEC season looming, the Tigers hope the quarterback’s resurgence will translate into a competitive edge, especially as they prepare for summer camp and the upcoming schedule.
