El Paso’s Flag Football Star Heads to World Stage
Laneah Bryan, a native of El Paso, Texas, has been selected to represent the United States on the U.S. Women’s National Flag Football team that will compete at the 2026 International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Flag Football World Championship in Düsseldorf, Germany. The tournament marks the final world championship before the sport makes its Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, giving Bryan a unique opportunity to cap her career on a global platform.
Bryan enters her fourth season with the national team, having contributed to the squad’s gold‑medal performance at the 2024 world championship. Since turning professional, she has traveled internationally with Team USA, playing exhibition matches in China, Finland and Panama, experiences that have sharpened her skills and deepened her appreciation for the sport’s growing reach.
Roots in El Paso
Beyond the field, Bryan credits the unwavering support of her hometown for much of her motivation. A simple post by USA Football that highlighted her journey sparked a wave of encouragement from local fans, a memory she says remains one of her favorites. The outpouring of pride from El Paso residents underscores the personal stakes she carries into every game.
Bryan’s athletic background also includes standout performances on the basketball court at Franklin High School, where she earned District 1‑5A MVP honors, and a four‑year tenure at the University of New Mexico. Those formative years helped shape the discipline and teamwork that now define her approach to flag football.
Looking ahead, Bryan’s primary goal is to represent her hometown with distinction in Düsseldorf. She hopes the upcoming championship will not only reinforce the United States’ dominance in the sport but also inspire the next generation of young athletes in El Paso and beyond.
