Latvian Forward Jaroslavs “JP” Pihtovs Commits to USF Basketball

The 6‑9 prospect brings international experience and high school dominance to the Dons

A Fresh Face for the Dons

The University of San Francisco’s men’s basketball program has added a highly anticipated piece to its roster with the signing of Jaroslavs “JP” Pihtovs, a 6‑foot‑9 forward of Latvian descent.

Pihtovs arrives after a standout prep career at Archbishop Riordan High School in San Francisco, where he helped the Crusaders capture three consecutive West Catholic Athletic League titles and a CIF Central Coast Section Open Division championship.

During his senior season he posted a 28‑2 record, broke the school’s all‑time winning streak record and earned first‑team WCAL honors alongside teammate Andrew Hilman.

His international résumé includes seven games for Latvia at the 2025 FIBA U18 EuroBasket, where he averaged 10.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.6 blocks, and a quarter‑final performance of 18 points, eight rebounds and five blocks against Germany.

Head coach Chris Gerlufsen said the program is eager to work with Pihtovs, noting his size, skill set and potential to contribute immediately.

Pihtovs will join Hilman, his high school teammate, on the Dons squad, adding depth and experience as the team looks to build on recent successes.

The signing underscores USF’s continued focus on recruiting talent that can compete both domestically and on the global stage.
