Peteris Pinnis, a 7‑foot‑1 forward from Salaspils, Latvia, has signed with the Oregon State men’s basketball team as a sophomore, bringing a rare combination of height and skill to the program.
During his freshman year at Providence College he appeared in 18 games, shooting 53.8 percent from the floor and pulling down six rebounds in a season‑high 16‑minute stint against Florida. He posted a career‑high 18 points and 11 rebounds against Viimsi on Oct. 9, and finished the 2024‑25 season averaging 7.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
A New Chapter for the Beavers
Head coach Justin Joyner praised the newcomer, noting that Pinnis’s size, movement and physical presence give the Beavers a distinct interior advantage.
Pinnis’s basketball résumé also includes stints with VEF Riga in the Latvia‑Estonia Basketball League and regular appearances for Latvia’s youth national teams, where he averaged nearly a double‑double in the FIBA U20 European Championships.
The addition of the Latvian big man is expected to bolster Oregon State’s rebounding and post play as the Beavers look to climb the Pac‑12 standings in the upcoming campaign.
