A Fresh Coaching Era
Laurel Brown, a former collegiate standout from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, has moved from Oregon to Devils Lake, North Dakota, to lead the girls' hockey program. Her journey includes a stint as venue manager at Shores Venue at the Woodland Resort, giving her a unique blend of operational and coaching experience.
The team has managed just a single victory over the past two seasons, a statistic that has weighed heavily on players and fans alike. This winter the league will be split into East and West divisions, meaning less travel for the squad and a chance to focus on local development.
Brown emphasizes that coaching is as much a game as the on‑ice action. She wants to reshape the culture, inject fun, and help each girl grow both as a player and as a person. Her philosophy reflects a player‑turned‑manager mindset, prioritizing development over mere wins.
From Assistant to Head Coach
After serving as an assistant under Rob McIvor, who helmed the program for more than a decade, Brown stepped into the head‑coach role. She is now seeking a new assistant to share the workload and to continue building a supportive environment for the team.
