A New Era for Hinds Women's Basketball
Lauren Morrow was officially appointed head coach of the Hinds Community College women's basketball program on April 21, stepping into a role that has been awaiting fresh leadership after the interim tenure of Alisa Thomas. The announcement came with a flurry of activity as Morrow quickly signed fifteen players to the upcoming roster, signaling an aggressive push to reshape the team.
Morrow arrives with a résumé that includes seven seasons at Florence High, where she guided the team to an average of 22.7 wins per season and delivered two state semifinal appearances and three quarterfinal runs. Her reputation rests on a coaching philosophy that prioritizes a strong foundation with local talent, emphasizing performance both on the court and in the classroom.
The coach’s family background underscores her connection to Mississippi education. She is the daughter of Jeff and the late Phyllis Morrow, longtime educators and coaches, and the sister of Ryne Morrow, who excelled in basketball and baseball at East Rankin Academy. Morrow is also a mother of two, Gavin and Lucy, who keep her grounded as she balances professional ambitions with family life.
Returning players Jordyn Ford and Jayla Snow give the program immediate experience, while Morrow’s recruiting focus on the Metro Jackson area aims to infuse the squad with home‑grown talent. She acknowledges that Mississippi’s junior‑college circuit ranks among the nation’s most competitive, but remains confident that the team can contend for Region 23 titles and ultimately national championships.
Beyond wins, Morrow’s vision centers on preserving the program’s traditions while injecting excitement. She plans to build a culture where players excel academically, community‑wise, and athletically, hoping to restore the program’s prominence in a landscape where Mississippi junior college basketball is renowned for its intensity.
