LaVar Ball Faces Lawsuit Over Unpaid Basketball Court
LaVar Ball is being sued by MD Steel Inc. for allegedly not paying the full amount for a basketball court installation at his California mansion.
The renovation of the court, part of a broader $5.2 million overhaul of the Chino Hills estate, reportedly cost more than $970,000, with the company claiming that Ball has only paid $754,391, leaving a shortfall of $221,928.
The complaint, filed in January in a California court, details the unpaid balance and includes documentation of the work performed by the steel contractor.
Ball showcased the unfinished court during a house tour streamed on the Kiya Studios YouTube channel, where he also highlighted other luxury features of the property, including a custom lighting system and a glass‑enclosed lounge.
Personal Turmoil and Property Details
In a separate livestream with internet personality N3lon, Ball flaunted additional elements of the mansion, drawing attention to the high‑end finishes that have become a hallmark of his public persona.
The legal action was first reported by TMZ and has since been confirmed by court filings that list MD Steel Inc. as the plaintiff and Ball as the defendant.
The lawsuit emerges at a moment of significant personal upheaval for the Ball family: just one day earlier, LaMelo Ball was traded from the Charlotte Hornets to the Minnesota Timberwolves, and LaVar disclosed during the livestream that his 30‑year marriage to his wife, Tina, is dissolving.
Adding another layer to the narrative, it was revealed that LaVar did not purchase the mansion himself; the property was acquired by his eldest son, Lonzo Ball, shortly after the younger brother’s 2017 NBA Draft selection.
As the case proceeds, MD Steel Inc. seeks to recover the outstanding amount plus interest, while Ball’s representatives have yet to comment publicly on the allegations.
