A 7-1 win over Martin Luther King completes a sectional sweep and sets the stage for a historic tournament run

The Lawrence County baseball team clinched a spot in the Class 3A state tournament with a 7-1 victory over Martin Luther King, completing a sectional series sweep that marks the program’s first appearance in the championship since 1977.

Momentum Builds in the Second Inning

The Wildcats surged early, plating four runs in the top of the second before extending the lead with a timely RBI single from Jasper Kilburn in the third. Logan Clayton, the team’s lone senior, closed the game by striking out all six batters he faced in the final two innings, while Braden Morrison delivered eight strikeouts over five solid innings.

Coach Clint Wright highlighted the role of the community and the collective effort that made the run possible, noting that the team’s determination has been fueled by local support and a shared belief in the goal.

With the sectional title secured, the Wildcats will travel to Murfreesboro, roughly 86 miles from Lawrenceburg, to compete in the state tournament, carrying the hopes of a town that has rallied behind them.
