The Ohio High School Athletic Association has released its divisional assignments for the 2026 football season, setting the stage for a reshuffling of teams across the state.
In Lawrence County, the picture is particularly clear. The majority of its programs will compete in Division V, while Rock Hill remains the sole representative in Division VI.
Chesapeake Panthers, after a brief experiment in Division VI, are slated to return to Division V. Their Football Adjusted Enrollment (FAE) of 151 places them among the second‑smallest schools in that division.
Rock Hill’s FAE of 148 keeps it in Division VI, a placement that reflects the school’s smaller enrollment figures.
Ironton and Wheelersburg are among the top contenders in Division V, with Ironton opening its season against Williamsburg on August 20.
Among the players to watch is Jamier Brown, a five‑star recruit who has committed to Ohio State. Although he will suit up for Big Walnut, a Division II program, his presence adds a spotlight to the local scene.
Key Matchups and Player Spotlights
Beyond the divisional realignments, several marquee matchups are already generating buzz. Ironton’s season opener against Williamsburg is scheduled for August 20, a game that could set the tone for the Tigers’ campaign.
Symmes Valley, competing in Division VII with an FAE of 90, will face a challenging schedule, but the team’s young core may surprise many observers.
