Lea Gentry, a senior at Denver North High School, has been named the inaugural April Heinrichs Award winner, an honor that recognizes the top senior girls soccer player in Colorado who also excels academically and serves her community.
Gentry’s soccer résumé reads like a championship story; she has started every season on the varsity squad, captained the team for two years, and helped guide the program to its first league title while advancing to the Class 4A semifinals.
Athletic Accomplishments
Her impact on the field is reflected in statistics that include 34 goals, 32 assists and a total of 100 points accumulated over four years, numbers that have cemented her reputation as a playmaker and finisher.
Academic and Artistic Excellence
Off the pitch, Gentry maintains a 4.98 GPA and channels her creativity into graphic design, a talent that earned her a congressional art contest victory and showcases a blend of artistic and athletic prowess.
Community service forms another pillar of her profile; she volunteers at local soup kitchens and has organized relief initiatives for Venezuelan migrants, demonstrating a commitment to civic responsibility that mirrors the award’s citizen criterion.
The recognition comes with a $1,000 scholarship and will be celebrated at a Denver Summit FC match, where Gentry will join other honorees in a ceremony that highlights the intersection of sport, scholarship and service.
