All‑Area Flag Football Team Showcases 2026 Talent
The Leaf‑Chronicle’s inaugural All Area flag football team for the 2026 TSSAA season has turned the spotlight on a wave of standout athletes and visionary coaching across the region.
At the center of the celebration is Nicole Cushionberry of West Creek, who earned the prestigious Player of the Year award after a season that saw her reel in 46 passes for 830 yards and 15 touchdowns, while also delivering 29 flag pulls, 16 interceptions and 11 pass breakups that helped shape games.
Coach Aaron King, also from West Creek, was honored as Coach of the Year after guiding his squad to a 15‑2 record and clinching the Region 7 championship, a testament to his strategic acumen and ability to rally players.
The roster of honorees reads like a who’s who of emerging talent, featuring names such as Lewiana Merriweather, Zoe Thompson, MJ Anthony, Eleanor Krueckeberg, Kinley Long, Lillian Peacock, Hadley Hagewood, Aaliyah Godfrey, Ellie Balthrop, Ally Howard, Caitlyn Mercado, Irelynn Laurin, Maggie Ward, Shayla Wille and Christina Brown, each of whom contributed statistically impressive performances that underscored their impact on the field.
Beyond individual accolades, the team’s composition reflects the growing competitiveness of high school flag football in Tennessee, a trend supported by the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association and the Tennessee Football Coaches Association, both of which have played pivotal roles in structuring the sport’s development and recognition programs.
As the 2026 season unfolds, coaches and players alike are looking ahead to next year’s challenges, with many of the highlighted athletes expected to be key contributors for college programs and beyond, promising a continued surge of excellence in the sport.
